Have you purchased a sliding door system, but you don't know how to attach rails for a sliding door? You've come to the right place at BestFix. First of all, it is important to know where you want to attach the rail. There are several possibilities.
Nowadays, traditional doors are often replaced by sliding doors during renovations or renovations. This adjustment usually makes sense since a sliding door takes up less space than a revolving door. To get an idea of this, you can watch housing programs such as VT Wonen or Eigen Huis en Tuin on television.
The easiest and most common way to realize a sliding door is a sliding door that slides in front of the wall. We distinguish 3 ways: Fixing to the ceiling, a suspended ceiling or to the wall.
Attaching sliding doors to ceiling
Mounting sliding doors to the ceiling is the easiest way, especially if you can hang the rail on a concrete floor. Of course, a wooden floor is no problem either. As long as you have enough grip for your screws. The beam will of course also have to be strong enough to bear the weight of your sliding door.
Always check that the ceiling is level. If this is not the case, you will have to make sure that the rail is still level in one way or another. If a sliding door is not level, there is a chance that your sliding door will continuously slide to the lowest side. That will definitely become an irritation point.
The rail already has holes for the screws. Mark these on the ceiling, drill the spots and attach the plugs if necessary. Then screw the rail to the ceiling.
Mounting sliding doors in a suspended ceiling
The mounting of a rail for a sliding door in a suspended ceiling is no different than on a normal ceiling, but the rail is a different type. There are 'wings' on both sides of the rail that keep the ceiling plates in place. Recently, there is also a rail for a suspended ceiling, where the ceiling plates come into contact with the profile. Visually, only a thin stripe runs through the ceiling.
Sliding door attached to the wall
Don't want ceiling-high sliding doors, but just cover the existing door opening? Then choose a wall mounting. Take into account a gap between the sliding door and the wall of at least 6 mm. If the old door frame with finish is left intact, the distance will be greater. The sliding door will therefore have to slide along the thickening of the finishing frame (architrave).
BestFix has sliding door systems for the wall, but also special wall brackets to which you attach the rail. Always check whether the wall offers sufficient support to attach the sliding door system.
You can also buy the components of the system separately, so that you can put together your perfect sliding door system. In this case, look at sliding-door rails and wooden sliding door rails in our range. We have all the matching elements for the rail.
How many rails do I need for a sliding door?
A rail is a basic component of a sliding door system and is often included as standard with a sliding door system. However, to realize some living requirements, you need several rails. For example, 1 rail is sufficient for a single sliding door. You can also use 1 rail with a double sliding door that opens centrally. Pay close attention to the combined weight of your doors and the maximum weight of the rail! If you want two or more doors that can slide past each other, you need a separate rail for each door. This mainly applies to sliding door systems with ceiling mounting.
The length of the rails is also important. A sliding door that goes in front of the wall should always cross over on both sides of the doorway. If you stick to the exact size of the opening, you will get a gap where you can look at the other room. We recommend an overlap of at least 4 cm on both sides. This overlap is also recommended when drafts and sound insulation must be taken into account. If your door opening is 80 cm, then your sliding door will be at least 88 cm. If you do not want the sliding door to be in front of the door opening when it is open, the rail must therefore be at least 176 mm. Do you want to buy sliding door rails?
