About the building

This project was realized in a special former wine warehouse from 1920. The detached enormous building is anything but contemporary and is located on the characteristic canals of Maassluis. The industrial building was once built for the Steur Brothers and for years lent itself as a warehouse and commercial building for their wine imports. In addition to this historic residence, there is also a coach house and outbuilding.

The owner of the building once looked for a house where he could also beautifully display his collection of classic Porsches. He found that five years ago in this former wine warehouse in Maassluis, says Megan Verhagen of real estate agency Kolpa van der Hoek.

As he and his family learned more about the history and architecture of the Winehouse Steur aan de Noordvliet 139 during the renovation, the love for transformation and construction projects grew.

He is selling this property, says Verhagen, to refurbish the next building. (1)

Characteristic loft

During the renovations, much attention was paid to preserving the characteristic elements of the house. For example, you can look at the courtyard through the old steel factory windows.

The wooden beams and high ridge on this floor have been preserved throughout, creating an industrial and spatial atmosphere. The electric skylights over the entire roof can be opened, darkened or closed remotely.

As soon as you enter this living space you will experience that people really live here. Everything is designed for optimal living and relaxation. For example, Ermetika's pocket systems were chosen to be able to enjoy the open space optimally. This way you always have a beautiful view from kitchen to living room and vice versa.

Showroom/Office

The wine barrels have made way for a 250m2 sleek space. During the renovation, they turned this into a workspace and showroom. This, like other rooms in this building, is equipped with underfloor heating that can be set thermostatically. Light was also important in this room. The elongated windows with double glazing provide pleasant light. The old steel factory windows give an industrial yet creative atmosphere.

Garden

To honor the former destination, a spacious grape greenhouse has been placed in the garden. With grape vines dating back decades, it is a nice place to have a drink in both winter and summer.

Coach house

Normally this would provide enough living space for any average family. However, you still have an entire building, in fact a second house, available on the other side. The coach house has been completely renovated and has the same sleek finish. This place is ideal for, for example, a practice room at home. The front has large windows and doors, all three of which can be opened towards the Binnenplein.
