In our range you will find a variety of rails for sliding doors. Put together your perfect sliding door system yourself or choose one of our complete sliding door system sets for glass or wooden sliding doors .

Below you can read step-by-step instructions on how to put together a sliding door system yourself. Good to know: when you select the rails, you can see at the bottom of the product page which matching products are suitable.

Step 1: What is the purpose of the sliding door?

Finding suitable sliding door rails starts with step 1. Why are you looking for a sliding door? What kind of space needs to be closed off and what is the desired result? What should be taken into account? Consider, for example, noise reduction or questions about drafts. Also measure the space (total width and height to be closed off). If necessary, make a number of sketches of the ideal situation, so that you have a clear picture of what your wishes are.

Step 2: How many door panels are needed?

But it is also important to know for how many door panels the rail system of the sliding door must be suitable for assembling a rail system. The amount of door panels determines how many suspension sets are needed. We distinguish between rail system for single doors, double doors, doors that slide in front of each other, a corner sliding door and a folding wall. However, all rails can be used for this purpose.

Double door

The most common rail system is for a single door on a single rail. But you may be looking for a sliding door for double doors. In that case, 1 rail would be sufficient, but you would need 2 door panels (and therefore 2 suspension sets).

Sliding doors

Or are you looking for a system where doors slide in front of each other, for example for a cupboard wall? In that case you need 2 separate sliding door rails that are mounted right behind each other. Each rail then gets its own door panel.

Corner sliding door

You could also make a corner sliding door. We have separate systems for glass. But you can also make these yourself for wooden door panels. With this you need at least 2 rail pieces and two suspension sets for the door panels.

Vouwwand

Step 3: What material will the sliding door panel be?

What material does the desired door panel consist of? Is this wood, glass or maybe metal? For example, glass sliding doors often require separate suspension sets and not every sliding door rail is suitable for every material.

Step 4: How heavy is the door panel?

Weight is another important factor when selecting your sliding door track system. Each rail has a maximum weight that the door rail system can carry. So pay close attention when choosing your door panels. An average interior door weighs 39 kilos, but with steel doors this average is already 80 kilos.

We have rail systems that can carry a maximum of 60 kilos, but also sliding door rails that can carry up to 500 kilograms. Please note that this is the total weight of everything hanging in the rail. For example, a rail that can carry a maximum of 60 kilos can consist of 1 door panel of 60 kilos or consist of 2 of 30 kilos each or 3 of 20 kilos each, etc.

Also make sure that your suspension set matches and is suitable for the desired load capacity. This is because the maximum weight affects what kind of pressure the wheels of the suspension set are. For years of enjoyment from your sliding door, it is therefore important that weeds are made for the right weight.

Step 05: What kind of assembly is desired?

Your rail type also depends on the desired mounting. These are the 4 main types:

  • Standard
  • Wall
  • Top
  • T-track

Step 06: Which suspension set fits the rail?

As a final consideration, it is important to determine which suspension set fits the sliding door rail. You therefore need separate suspension sets with glass clamps for glass door panels. There are 2 main types of suspension sets for the wooden (and steel) door panels. We distinguish between the Superior suspension set and the Retrac suspension set:

Superior

The Superior suspension set is attached to the door panel. This gives you a space between the door panel and the sliding door rail. This could easily be solved by installing a cove.

Retract

The Retrac suspension set is mounted in the door panel. As a result, there is minimal space between the door leaf and the door panel. This way you maintain a nice minimalistic effect.

Softclose

You can then consider adding a soft close to your hanging set. The soft close/open is then included in the suspension set. A soft close generally works best with a somewhat heavier door. We generally do not recommend the soft close for older people and people with little strength in their hands, since you have to pull the door through the brakes of the soft close when you open it again.
